About Me

Pete Faint

Musical Director, Pianist, Vocal Coach

Since graduating from Lancaster University, first with a BMus (Hons) and then an MPhil degree in the 1990's, Pete Faint has been working consistently as a musician for more than two decades in a vast array of genres and styles, from pop to classical to musical theatre. He is a highly regarded pianist, keyboard player, accompanist, arranger, composer, author, musical director, band leader and vocal coach and has considerable experience as a theatre producer, studio producer, engineer and conductor.

He currently divides his time between being a vocal coach at Wilkes Academy of Performing Arts in Swindon, performing as part of the UK’s top Erasure tribute band, and as keyboard player for the Rewind All Star Band, to be found performing with a multitude of million selling artists at Rewind Festivals throughout the UK every summer. He also works as keyboard player for Cutting Crew and for Jimmy Sommerville, touring across the world.

He is also widely regarded as the world authority on Dance Band leader and theatrical entrepreneur Jack Hylton. He created the extensive official Jack Hylton website, wrote the definitive biography on Hylton in 2014, and in 2015 produced his own Hylton theatre show, featuring a 20-piece recreation of Hylton's 1930's orchestra, to unprecedented commercial and critical acclaim.

Pete's teaching credits include periods working at guest MD and vocal coach at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, The Hammond School in Chester, Liverpool Theatre School and for many years as Lecturer in Music Theatre at The University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

Pete has performed with the Halle Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra on several occasions, including a televised concert in Northern Ireland in 2015.

About The Tracks

Me playing the piano

All the piano tracks on the site are played and recorded by me, using a Yamaha Clavinova electric piano, connected via MIDI to an iMac, running Apple Logic Software and utilising the inbuilt Steinway Piano samples. The files are then bounced down to high quality 256kbps MP3 files.

My aim is to produce tracks which give the feel of a live accompanist.  I'm not the best pianist, by any means, but with over twenty years of experience working in professional musical theatre and in education, I feel that the tracks here should work well for singers of all abilities, and most of these tracks have been used hundreds of times by students and performers all over the world.  I aim to play expressively and in a way which compliments the voice, not necessarily sticking rigidly to the notes on the page, if a better choice works for the performance.

All the tracks are legal and covered by my Limited Online Music Licence, provided by PRS. They are for personal use in rehearsal, audition, show reel and self-tape, though if you want to perform them live, you'd have to get in touch with PRS directly, or your venue.

I want to make products which work for you, so I'd welcome your feedback, and I hope that you get as much enjoyment from the tracks as my students and fellow performers have for many years.

F.A.Q.

How will I receive my tracks?

They'll be instantly available to download on the site, and a download link will also be emailed instantly to you. The download link expires five days after your order. I can't offer refunds I'm afraid, but I will happily resend a file, if I feel there's been a genuine error.

How quickly will I receive my tracks?

The tracks are instantly delivered via email, as a download link. If you're ordering something more bespoke, then it just depends on what I'm currently up to - hopefully within 48 hours.

How do I pay for the tracks?

You can either use PayPal, or use a credit or debit card. The site is secure and I'll never see your payment details.

I can't find what I want. What can I do?

Well, get in touch - perhaps I've already got it, but it's not made it's way onto the site yet. If not, we can hopefully arrange to get it done quickly and cheaply.

I'd like one of the songs in a different key. Can that happen?

It's really easy for me to transpose any of these tracks. Just get in touch and I'll have it done really quickly. I won't charge any more to transpose a track already in the catalogue.

Can I get a refund?

I'm afraid that because the site offers instant downloads, I'm not in a position to give you a refund, but I'd welcome the opportunity to understand why you weren't happy and perhaps find a low cost solution - I want people to come back and use the site so any chance I can, I'd be happier solving the problem.

Are the tracks fully licensed?

The tracks are licensed in the UK by PRS for your own personal usage and performance. If you wish to use the tracks for public performance, then I suggest you speak to the venue about their license deal, or speak directly to PRS, to deal with the publishers.

How can I get the sheet music for the tracks?

I'm afraid I'm not licensed to forward sheet music to you. Each audition cut has a description of the edits done. Other than that, an official online sheet music store would be best.

Can I download the file to my iPhone?

Sort of! You can listen to the track directly from the link you get after purchase, but that expires after five days. You can also download the track via Safari direct from that link, but you then need to take care to save it somewhere, or again, it'll disappear after a while. Dropbox, iCloud, or similar file storage options can work straight from that link.

How can I order a bespoke track?

Just get in touch via the contact page and explain what it is you want. There may be some songs I've done which haven't made it onto the site yet, in which case, it's easy. If it's something new to me, or something with a different arrangement, or a full band track, then we'll have to discuss time frames and fees - a lot will depend on my availability and your deadline. Send me a message and we can try to sort it out.

Testimonials

"Absolutely in love with this site. Considering how the industry currently relies on online auditions, self tapes etc., to have good quality warm ups & backing tracks (cut to audition length) is an absolute godsend for students and professionals alike. Pete can literally record anything for you and it is sure to make your audition life 100% easier."
Alice Fearn (West End Royalty)

"Pete created some fabulous backing tracks for my college & university students. The quality was second to none and the turn around time was excellent. Pete also did these tracks at such an affordable price, making them really accessible for a further education provider. I’ll definitely be looking to Pete to record any further tracks for my students. Thank you!"
Elise Brassington (Burton & South Derbyshire College)

"INCREDIBLE service. Such a lovely, kind man. Amazing track! Can't wait to buy more."
Jess Jenks (Singer)

"I was in need of a piano track for 'Defying Gravity' for my daughter and needed it at very short notice.  I contacted Pete and within two hours I had a brilliantly performed track with the cuts as requested.  Fabulous service!  Can’t recommend enough!"
Mike Horth (Musician)

"Every time I've asked Pete for bespoke work, he produces something spectacular, whether a piano track or a fully produced backing track and all at a really great price, which is really handy as a student. Also it's done super quick. But the really amazing part is his friendly approach to it; nothing seems too big or too small."
Mark Birch  (MT Student, UCLan)

“The quality of Pete’s backing tracks are outstanding! They are always exactly how I imagine. They are so professional and the turn around very quick. Nothing is too much trouble. Can’t recommend him enough. "
Manny Crooks (Senior Lecturer in Music Theatre / Freelance Voice and Accent Coach)

“Having worked with Pete over the past 18 years in professional touring, amateur theatre and having him create bespoke band parts for cruise contracts - and of late when he performed alongside my management clients Collabro & Sheridan Smith OBE - I can attest that his intuitive musicianship, adaptability and good humour make him the best in the industry at what he does.”
Emma Norman (Maven Casting)

“I have had the pleasure of working with Pete on a variety of projects over a number of years.  Upon hearing of this new site, I ordered a bespoke track immediately and received it incredibly quickly.  The quality of the track, along with Pete’s professionalism and musicianship, has ensured that I will never buy my tracks from anyone else.”
Gaz Jenkins (Singer)

"If, like me you are fed up of sifting through reels of poor quality tracks in the hope of finding the perfect one, worry no more.  This site is for you.  Brilliant for choirs, ensembles and soloists. In fact, everything you need is right here. It’s just what pro singers/students have been waiting for."
Louise Woodgate (Singer/Vocal Teacher)
